Xiaomi Redmi Y1 with 16MP selfie camera launched in India starting at Rs. 8,999

Xiaomi has launched a brand new Redmi Y line up of smartphones in India, and the first member of the family is Redmi Y1, and its toned down version, Redmi Y1 Lite. With the Redmi Y1, Xiaomi is putting the focus on selfies for the first time, and will be competing with Oppo and vivo, who are best known for their selfie phone. That said, the Redmi Y1 is a re-branded Redmi Note 5A, which was launched in China last month.

The metal-clad Xiaomi Redmi Y1 flaunts 16MP selfie camera, and has a dedicated selfie flash unit, to capture better selfies in low-light condition. It also get Beautify 3.0 software optimizations, which offers a handful of filters to enhance your self portraits. The main camera at the rear is a 13MP unit assisted by PDAF and dual-tone LED flash. 

The phone also has a three SIM slot design, first time on a Xiaomi phone, which means it has dedicated slot for microSD card and dual-SIMs.

As for the other specs, the Redmi Y1 features 5.5-inch HD display with Gorilla Glass protection, and is equipped with octa-core Snapdragon 435 processor further aided by Adreno 505 GPU and 3080mAh battery. It will be in two RAM/storage models: 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB. The storage is expandable via microSD card.

The connectivity features include dual-SIM slot, 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. It runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat based MIUI 9, and includes a rear mounted fingerprint scanner.

Speaking of the Redmi Y1 Lite, as the name suggests it is a toned down version of Redmi Y1 featuring Snapdragon 425 chip, 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage.

Coming to the pricing, the Redmi Y1 is priced at Rs. 8,999 for the 3GB/32GB model, and Rs. 10,999 for the 4GB/64GB model, while the Redmi Y1 Lite will cost Rs. 6,999. They will be available exclusively on Amazon India as well as Mi.com starting November 8.
